DEVILS OUT! TOURNAMENT 2024

Tokyo Bilingual Chess Club had an exciting "Setsubun" in our Devils Out!👹 scholastic chess tournament this past Saturday, February 3, 2024. The main ritual associated with the observance of Setsubun is mamemaki 'bean scattering'; this ritual sees roasted soybeans known as fukumame 'fortune beans' either thrown out of the front door, or at a member of the family wearing an oni (demon or ogre) mask while shouting 'Devils out! Fortune in!' before slamming the door.

There were a total of 15 players with a record number of girls attended, vying for various trophies and prizes. While missing many of our regular players due to sickness, we did not lack excitement and nail biting games.

Huge thanks to the TD, Alex A., & Kevin Z. who settled any type of dispute that arose during the game and  Kairi's Dad who offered great photos taken in every tournament!

Here are the results of Devils Out! Tournament:

Class A: Eito Nishida with 4.0/5.0

Class A: Kairi Akiyama with 3.5/5.0

Class A: Tristan Chih with 3.0/5.0

Class B: Paulo Galvez with 5.0/5.0

Class B: TennBinn Yang with 4.0/5.0

Class B: Sana Kuwabara with 3.0/5.0

The 1st place winner of each section received free entry fee for the next scholastic chess tournament on March 16, 2024.

Congratulations to the winners, and a big thank you to all the players who came out to compete.  Tokyo Bilingual Chess Club can assist families who want to begin the process of having their children become NCS members, just let us know before the Japan Cadets/Youth Championship 2024 on April 6-7.

With trophies, certificates and other prizes up for grabs, the Devils Out! tournament was fun and fertile breeding ground for up and coming champions!
