St. Patrick's Day♣Tournament

Tokyo Bilingual Chess Club's St. Patrick's Day Scholastic Tournament held on March 16, 2024 was small but fun!  People often wonder: “What is the true story of St. Patrick’s Day?” No body participated in this tournament was the Irish origin, but it's Okay!

Students are being taught by the top chess trainers in the world. It is absolutely astounding that we have access to these talented coaches. The Tournament Director, Alex A., explained how to use a chess clock as it is part of the game.

There were 18 players that came out during our tournament from at least 16 schools, including many middle schoolers and five girls.

We had two sections and the winners were :

Class A: Kairi Akiyama with 4.5/5.0

Class A: Kai Tatsumi with 4.0/5.0

Class A: Haruki Shimagaki with 3.0/5.0

Class A: Asami Inada with 3.0/5.0

When two or more players ended up with the same score, we had a blitz chess play-off, in which they

play one game of five-minute chess to determine who wins which trophy.

Class B: Natsuki Takizawa with 5.0/5.0

Class B: Nguyen Quang Minh  with 3.0/5.0

Class B: Sana Kuwabara with 3.0/5.0

Class B: Alisa Chelyukanova with 3.0/5.0

The 1st place winner of each section received free entry fee for the next scholastic chess tournament.

All in all, it was a great experience for young players got a good opportunity to display to display their skills.  It has assured us that chess is a game wherein children learn to be responsible for their actions. Thanks to Teacher Kevin for helping with monitoring the games and setting up and breaking down everything.

Also, thank you for being the best photographer, Hiroko A., Kairi's mom, in our chess community!  It was a huge help and much appreciated.

Thank you to all who came out to and participated the St. Patrick's Day♧ Chess Tournament.

Please join us this spring for the Geek Pride 👽 Chess Tournament on Saturday, May 25th in Osaki.
